Read Mike’s Story
Mike had severe low back pain when he visited Pursuit. Now he is active, back on the water, and feeling great again!
“I had severe pain from a lower back injury – a torn L4/L5 disk on right – but there was more that I didn’t know at first. Beyond pain, my biggest concern was that my lifestyle and confidence were completely compromised. Prior to the injury, I was active in a lot of outdoor activities including sailing my 18’ catamaran weekly and taking annual ski-mountaineering trips and white-water paddling adventures along with camping, hiking, yard work, etc. After the injury I feared doing any of that.
My girlfriend, now fiancée, is a health education specialist and she recommended Cathy Yi from Pursuit.
Cathy approached my back problem from a totally different perspective than any other medical practitioner that I had encountered. First, she spent a lot of time figuring out what was causing the problem. This included asking me an extensive series of questions about what I was feeling during various stretches, positions and exercises. One question/exercise lead to another in a complex series in order to find answers. Cathy spent much more time with me in this process than anyone in my previous care. Then she determined what steps to take to improve my condition. I started feeling results immediately.
Now I am pain free and can do just about anything that involves bending my back. I have 100% of my confidence back and feel like I can do anything I did before the injury. Here is some perspective: I hurt my back in Sept of 2017 and procrastinated getting help beyond two orthopedic doctor visits and a MRI. I was limping and in pain with limited mobility. I had not touched my catamaran sail boat, canceled a ski trip and was doubtful that I would be able to do a whitewater paddling trip that was scheduled for June 2018. A friend (and river guide) of mine had won a lottery to paddle the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon – a sixteen-day self-supported trip, which would mean paddling through big white water, daily loading/unloading of rafts, and an all around full-on physical challenge requiring a strong and healthy body. I was depressed because I didn’t think I would be able to do it. However, after two months of working with Cathy, my back was better, and she had taught me an arsenal of pain relief techniques, stretches, and exercises that I could use as needed. I still wasn’t very sure if I was ready for this trip, but Cathy encouraged me that I was. Damn if I didn’t paddle that river with prejudice! It was an adventure of a lifetime, and my back was fine. From time to time, I get lazy and don’t stretch or exercise, and my body reminds me that there is still residual damage on that disk. When that happens, I know what pain relief techniques to implement and within minutes I feel better. If I stay active and do a small amount of stretches and exercises even that can be avoided.
I would recommend Cathy to anyone who is serious about wanting to be pain free from a back injury without resorting to surgery and/or take painkillers.”
Read Brian’s Story
Brian suffered with low back pain for 3 years. Now he is pain free back running and playing soccer!
“I began experiencing lower back pain almost three years ago. Being young and active, I ignored it at first. Eventually, the pain worsened to the point of not being able to even put on my shoes without excruciating pain. I went to another physical therapist for almost a year and the pain only got worse. I even had injections which only temporarily relieved my pain. I had gotten to the point where I was no longer able to perform a lot of the activities that I loved and thought this was just something I would have to live with. I decided to give it one last shot with Pursuit Physical Therapy, not really expecting much but I was definitely wrong. After meeting with Ron, he was sure he’d be able to help. I began working with Cathy and within 3 months my pain was almost completely resolved. Cathy applied a very individualized approach to my treatments and adjusted them almost every visit depending on my previous results. It was unlike the cookie-cutter routines I had been through previously. Her knowledge and skills are beyond impressive. Now, I’m back to competitive sports and weightlifting – things I thought I would not be able to do anymore. My only regret is not visiting Pursuit sooner. I would have saved a lot of time, money (physical therapist copays, physician copays, MRIs, lumbar injections, etc.), and especially frustration! I can’t recommend them enough and will definitely return with any future injuries.”

Read Gary’s Story
Gary had low back pain for years. Now he is back running and playing soccer pain free!
“Ron and his entire staff are not only highly skilled and professional but also compassionate and invested in their patient’s success. Ron puts the patients best interest at the forefront and does anything and everything in his power to get the results we are all here to achieve, a real solution to our chronic pain issues.
At only 28 years old, I had been dealing with a chronic back issue for over 13 years. Consistently re-injuring myself doing simple every day activities, unable to get out of bed some days, and my quality of life deteriorating. I had my issues from such a young age, and over the years I’ve been to several chiropractors, physicians, other physical therapists, acupressurists… you name it, I tried it and it failed me.
I had all but given up on finding a solution and resigned myself to my pain, but my primary care doctor referred me to Pursuit. It took me a year and a particularly bad resurgence of my back issues to finally push myself to attend the evaluation, but once I did, I knew that I had finally found somebody who could figure it out.
Ron’s in-depth knowledge of the human body, what ails it, and what his plan was to get my body back in shape was so complete, well thought out, and earnest, I knew from the first appointment that I had FINALLY found somebody who could figure out what was needed to get me back on track.
I had several overlapping issues causing my pain and Ron was able to diagnose them one by one, help me through them to overcome the pain, and provide me a home exercise program that would help me take control of my body and pain. Ron was able to put the ball back in my court and give me the ability to help take responsibility for my health and work on through my issues.
On top of Ron and his team’s proficiency, they also have the earnest desire to see their patients healed. They don’t try to draw out treatment to make an extra buck, he provides the most effective treatments possible to get you back in shape as swiftly as possible and knows that stellar treatment provided will make each of his patient’s outspoken supporters, which is why I write to you today.
No matter how complex your issue, no matter how many times you have sought treatment, no matter what other practitioners have told you, give yourself one more shot and go to Pursuit Physical Therapy for an evaluation and get your quality of life back.”
