A recent case study article details the treatment of an active-duty soldier’s calf muscle strain injury using electrical dry needling combined with soft tissue mobilization. After the initial calf strain, electrical dry needling was used (above and below the strain area in the calf muscle) along with soft tissue mobilization techniques to further enhance recovery.  He received 4 treatment sessions in the first 2 weeks At 2 weeks the patient reported no pain with walking and in the calf and their was actually diagnostic ultrasound evidence that you could not see the calf muscle strain gone with improved alignment of fibers! The combined approach helped the soldier get back free in 2 weeks, return to full physical activity, and to continue with progressive strengthening. This case demonstrates how targeted dry needling and manual therapy can expedite the healing after a muscle strain and get you back to activity faster! Even better, to use dry needling above and below the injury site to help promote healing. To see the full case study you can read the full article here.
